For nine months you bore me,
Your pain a testimony of your love and care;
How can I thank you for the life you did share?
Now I have grown enough to be free
And open about the gratitude and love, be
Openly indebted for the years you spent, to be fair,
Protecting me from the world till I could bear
To face it myself. Such love I feel, and now I see
That to have a mother is truly magnificent:
Not just any mother, but my mother,
And I feel now the full weight of rent
I should pay through love, and I see behind all the bother
And fuss of Mother’s Day lies love and care, and you.
